SAG

Well, the SAG dresses were definitely more interesting than those at the Golden Globes!!!!
I'm not going to say that I loved lot's of dresses at the SAG awards but I loved that there were a lot more risks taken and a more interesting variety of outfits on display.

The Golden Globes were really quite dull and at least on this red carpet there were outfits that sparked a bit of controversay and varying viewpoints.

Angelina, Angelina, Angelina I'm going to be honest I'm not her biggest fan, I know it's all in the past but I'm still Team Aniston, but I will give credit where it's due in the fashion stakes and sometimes she just gets it completely spot on. I do not think she is doing it that this awards season! I think she is suffering from the dreaded lollipop head syndrome here, she looks far to gaunt, she isn't the sexy Tomb Raider of days gone by. The dress is ok, I don't hate it, to be fair i'm pretty indifferent to it, the hair is the same, it's just not doing much of anything, the one thing I do have an opinion on is the earrings -
and I really dislike them!

Now, on the other hand here is one look that I really like ALL of! This is how to pull of black at an awards ceremony. This is one of those looks that has divided opinion, I can see why, but I like that it's a little bit of a risk take, I think the cut away panels are just enough sexy with out being too much and in your face (Lea Michele take note!!) Her hair and make up, for me, were one of the best on the red carpet, the quiff was a great choice, not too out there but quirky enough to be stand out, I, for some reason even like that her roots are coming through, the smoky eyes just enhance how stunning she is, I think she may be stealing Ms Jolie's sexy crown! I can understand why others dislike the look but for me it was one of the nights winners.

Amber Heard in Zac Posen (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

This one I can't decide upon, there are a few outfits from the night that from some angles I really like and then from others I don't and this is one of them! From the front I really like this, it's elegant and its intricate and there is no doubt it is beautiful but from this angle it looks like it doesn't fit her properly at all & don't get me started on the necklace!! Jury is still out.

This one goes into the same category as above, I really don't know what I think about this!!!! I love the design, it's Elie Saab so of course I'm going to love it and I really love that she just took the risk. I love the hair, I think it really suits her, I think where my problem sits is the hair with the jumpsuit, I'm not sure that together it works?! I also think her posture in the outfit is really bad which makes me think she doesn't feel comfortable in her outfit choice & that is always a worry when your being photographed for a good few hours by the world's press! Hmmm and maybe the creases in the trousers didn't help either.
I'm just so confused!

Ahna O'Reilly in Nha Khanh (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

I am not a fan of a red dress on the red carpet, there I said it & I didn't like Reese at the Golden Globes, I know, I know, I am in the smallest minority ever for saying these statements but it's true.
Now I'm going to go against that initial statement completely and say that I love this dress! It fits like a glove, its simple and structured and sexy! The slanted back just gives it that something special and she looks like she feels a million dollars in it and that's all important (see above!!!).
What I love best about this is her simple hair, swept to one side, the colour is stunning and it is THE perfect accessory to this dress, the slight hint of green eyeshadow finishes it off to perfection, green eyeshadow on a red head is always a big thumbs up from me! She just looks immaculate.

My go to girl! Finally one of them got it right, I absolutely adore this colour on Emily Blunt, it suits her perfectly and she just oozes Hollywood glamour, the only thing that lets this down for me is her hair, it looks like no effort has been put in, and I don't like the colour, I much prefer her as more of a red head and think this dress would have had even more of a wow factor if there had been auburn locks flowing!

This one really disappointed me, mainly because I watched The Descendants last night and she stole the whole movie and she looked so pretty, so I was really expecting great things when she walked down the red carpet, but this just leave me really underwhelmed and the hair is bad.

Shailene Woodley in L'Wren Scott (Picture washingtonpost.com)

My absolute favourite hair of the night, hands down winner, love it...

Lea Michele in Versace (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

....ruined by the amount of leg that she kept flashing ALL NIGHT!
We know, your not all prim and proper like Rachel in glee but please this was just a bit too much leg on display! The dress itself was actually really lovely, her leg just go more attention than it.

Lea Michele in Versace (Picture glamourmagazine.com)

Time for the ladies in white, as you can see from my Golden Globes post I like a white dress and these 2 were very high on my list for best dressed at the SAG awards, what makes these two looks so great is the accessories! The bright pop of magenta in Judy Greer's outfit easily takes it away from bridal and into red carpet territory. The detailing on the dress is beautiful and she looks radiant. One of my favourites.

Judy Greer in Collette Dinnigan (Picture thefashionpolice.net)

I didn't like Kelly Osbourne's look at the Golden Globes at all, this outfit is a massive improvement!
I really love this dress, but like the above the accessories make it! the belt and tassels are what completes this look, without it it could have been a complete wash out, I'm still not sold on the hair but I do like the slick of red lipstick.

Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

Michelle Williams is another of my go to girls, and while I think this is a million times better than the Golden Globes outfit I still don't love it, so I'm disappointed again. The lace detailing is beautiful, and the gathered materiel on the one shoulder is what set's it apart, I also like the angled hem and my favourite is the Lanvin clutch, it's just lovely, but the stripper shoes?! Really! Just ruins all the good that was going on in one foul swoop!

Michelle Williams in Valentino (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

Another of my go to girls, there is no doubt what so ever that what ever Emma Stone wears she always looks stunning and that is exactly what she looks in this outfit, but and again I know i'm in the minority here but I just don't like it!! I know every fashion site is raving about her pushing the boundaries by wearing a mid-calf length dress and saying how amazing it is, but I don't like the length of this dress. I don't dislike mid calk length dresses generally, I just don't like the fullness of the skirt and it being this length. I also don't like the bodice, the shoes or the handbag. I actually prefer her Golden Globes dress to this. I am surprised to not like it as I am a McQueen fan but this one just isn't my thing.

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen (Picture glmaourmagazine.co.uk)

All that said, her hair, make up and earrings were faultless, from the neck up she absolutely rocked!

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

This was another one that got a lot of slating reviews on various fashions sites, but I think this is a great dress, classic awards ceremony glamour, everyone loves a bit of sparkle and Jayma Mays looks like she loves her dress more than anyone, good for her, she looks fab in it.

Jayma Mays in Reem Acra (Picture marieclaire.co.uk)

Now, one moment I think Tilda looks like she is wearing her living room curtains and the next  I love how simple and elegant she looks, I am very undecided. At times I love that she kept the jewellery minimal and then I hate how bland it all looks, I love that she is embracing her feminine shape a lot more these days but on the other hand I look at this picture and think it looks like she is hiding it too much under all the fabric! It all hurts my head. I think the only answer I have is I don't know!! I did mention somewhere that I was very indecisive!

Tilda Swinton in Lanvin (Picture glamourmagazine.co.uk)

Meryl, what can I say. The belt is wrong, it's too big and clunky, and I wish there was just a little less material swamping her, but I think the colour is fabulous on her! Her hair looks great and the drop earrings are perfect with the up do. Over all I think this is a fashion SAG triumph for Meryl even if it wasn't her night for the awards themselves.

So the SAG awards were definitely an improvement on the Golden Globes, lets hope that means the Oscars will be an improvement again on SAG awards!

I wish they had Made it in America!

I know I am a little behind on this one in commenting on this one, but I am really disappointed that "How to Make it in America" got cancelled after only 2 seasons!

There is A LOT of rubbish on our TV screens, here and over in the States too and this may not have been ground breaking or Golden Globe worthy but it was a bloody good watch! It was entertaining, amusing and replaced that hole that SATC had left for showing off Manhattan in every scene (always a winner in my mind!) and I tell you what Bryan Greenberg wasn't half easy on the eye either!!!

It was clearly living up to it's hyped up status as an East Coast version of Entourage, you
know the scene - lots of drink, drugs, rock & roll and very attractive women,
(BTW I'm not at all that way pursuaded but Lake Bell's boobies - wow - and you saw a lot
of them in this show) but it was doing a really good job of filling the Entourage void
& typically it was just getting very interesting towards the end of series 2!

Here's hoping another station picks it up and rolls with it, because I think everyone
needs a bit of Crisp in their lives!

Sucker for Saab

I really am a sucker for Saab, I love the overtly feminine designs that he always produces and the Spring Summer 2012 Couture collection shown in Paris today is no exception. The dresses are always just so exquisite and detailed, the most perfect "dress up" dresses you could ever dream up.

There are a lot of similarities in his collection to the dresses that I liked at the Golden Globes, I think there is some kind of a theme going here! I know a lot of people think that his collections all blend into one and are very similar but to be honest I'm a believer in "if it's not broke, don't fix it" and I don't think there is anything wrong with creating stunningly beautiful dresses, there are enough crazy headline grabbing designer collections out there, it's nice to know what your getting and knowing your going to love it.

If I was going to the Oscars I would want to wear Elie Saab, I hope we see some of these creations on the night!

I shall let the pictures do the talking now.....

I missed one!

Well, well, well, How did this one pass me by!
Romola Garai -  nominated for Best Actress in a Mini Series, for her performance in the BBC production The Hour, eventually loosing out on the award to Kate Winslet, but she definitely won in the red carpet battle. I absolutely adore this dress, it's so sleek and yet so quirky!
I did notice in yesterdays post most of the dresses I liked were in the nude/cream/flesh coloured area, which many are saying has been over done of late and they are probably right, (it just looks so elegant!)
and I'm not straying to far away from this theme by loving Garai's dress, but I don't feel at all guilty!
This was the kind of dress I was looking for, one that makes me gush over it, I could go on about it for ages! The length, the shape, the pockets (I love a pocket in a dress!) the nipped in waist and the puffed sleeves, the intricate lace work, the short underskirt it was just nothing like any of the other dresses on the red carpet and I LOVE IT! Best of all she looked so comfortable in it, and sometimes that's half the battle!

It does make me sad that I didn't see it yesterday, I'm guessing that she just isn't quite A list enough to have been all over the internet, but she was actually nominated for a globe, you would think that would have been enough to get some more exposure! I don't actually know who she is wearing, I only managed to find 2 different pictures of her in it, again, very sad as I think she should have featured on all the best dressed lists, but as I mentioned in my last post, my views are normally very different to the people compiling those lists.

I really like that she kept everythhing so simple with this dress, the lovely loose curls framing her face, elegant drop earrings, and perfectly matching shoes that don't distract from the dress but also don't get completely lost, but to be fair she had the best accessory of all on her arm, the utterly charming Dominic West, I'm not at all jealous of this girl! Not one bit.

Golden Globes 2012.... Meh.

I already hate this post.
I know that isn't an encouraging opening line, but it's true.
I guess it's my own fault for putting off writing a blog for sooo long that when I finally get around to writing it the one thing I was looking forward to writing about the most turns out to be a tad dull!
I'm sorry to sound miserable, to be fair it is still Blue Monday somewhere in the world, but I was seriously underwhelmed by the dresses at the Globes this! I was all ready to be gushing and praising here but it aint happening! Don't get me wrong I don't think anyone actually got it that wrong (maybe Amanda Peet and Buffy could go in this category after more careful consideration) it's just that nobody really got it that right. To be fair though my opinion normally varies greatly from all the fashion best & worst lists that appear so maybe I'm in the minority! Who knows!

I found even my go to/failsafe girls let me down - Miss Winslet, I normally am nothing but full of praise for this woman, but her Jenny Packham monochrome outfit just didn't do anything for me, I loved the hair though. Emma Stone who I am little bit in love with, actually a lot in love with if I'm being honest, I really liked the Lanvin gown, thought it suited her perfectly, i just wasn't on board with the belt or the shoes. Michelle Williams, I didn't like the headband and I just thought the Jason Wu dress didn't seem very her, she normally looks so elegant.

There were a few outfits that I did like, believe it or not.

I thought Jessica Biel in Elie Saab looked beautiful, if not a little too bridal for the red carpet, but if the rumours are to be believed maybe she is just getting some practice in!

Diane Lane personified old school glamour, her hair was simple and her dress did the talking, understated but elegant in Reem Acra.

Kate Beckinsale did what she always does best, looked stunning in Roberto Cavalli fish tale gown, the woman is breathtakingly beautiful and looked completely at ease dripping in all her diamonds - it's just all a little predictable, without trying to sound like a cliched X Factor judge, it would be nice to see her step out of her comfort zone!

It's very understandable why Miss Theron has topped nearly all of the best dressed list's today, she did indeed look sensational in her Dior, and Stuart Townsend must be ruing the day he let her walk away. She showed of her killer legs that has captured everyones attention, male and female, in the Dior perfume ads, her hair was simple and understated, everything about it worked, I liked it all, I just didn't love it.

One of the ones I did really like was Julie Bowen who outshone most women on the red carpet in her Reem Acra dress with beautifully detailed capped sleeves. I then remembered that I had loved this dress somewhere before, Olivia Wilde. 2008. The Emmys. Equally as stunning, it's just a beautifully ethereal dress. This one gets the thumbs up.

Now comes to the ever controversial fashion choice, Tilda Swinton. I love her, she is edgy, she doesn't care and she just gets on with doing her own thing. I do admit that sometimes I think she gets it very wrong, but most of the time I just love that she is doing something different to everyone else. I really liked this outfit a lot, but only on her. On anyone else it would have been horrific, I like that she has gone all out feminine, showing of her silhouette in this and taken a step away from the androgynous look she typically favours.

As I mentioned previous I have a few go to girls who normally always get it right in the style stakes (if you make a habit of reading this you will see there are a few I favour!) and another one of them is Emily Blunt. I love this colour on her, it's bright, it's fresh, it screams Spring, which is just what we need, but it's not a great picture, and I can't seem to find many more, I would have loved to have seen more of this as I think she really pulls it off. Surprise surprise it's Elie Saab, not sure there is much that he can do wrong when it comes to red carpet glamour.

I'm going to end my first official, blog post with my favourite looks from the night...
Outfit wise I think Claire Danes pulled off her J. Mendel dress to perfection, the minimal jewellery, the blood red pout, she just just looked glamourous and effortless at the same time. This to me was how to do monochrome, completely outshining Kate Winslet's take on the look. The detailing on the back just gave it that something special to make it stand out, and she knew how to work the backless look!

Hair! There were a fair few nice do's on show but for me Salma Hayek's gorgeous tumbling tresses took the crown, the colours, the curls, the shine, I want it.

..... and last but by no means least, the best dressed guy. I think Benedict Cumberbatch has his red carpet look down to an absolute tee. Suave, sophisticated and you could see your reflection in those shoes. Good work Sherlock.

I would normally hope to make some reference to the actual winners of the awards and how worthy i deemed them to be, because obviously my opinion will be far superior than those of the actual people judging (really hope the sarcasm is coming through in this!), but as I have not managed to get round to seeing a single movie that has been nominated in any category (bad lolly) and the only TV I have watched that was nominated was Downton Abbey I don't really feel I have much to say, so I'm going to keep in completely superficial and just judge people on there clothes!
Bring on the Oscars I say, let's hope there a bit more to love there!
